Entertainment Weekly debuts “Teenage Fight Song” calls AMFMS’ Strokes trying to sound like Fugazi, with a little Mission of Burma thrown on top…

We started getting emails and texts earlier today that Entertainment Weekly was debuting our video for Teenage Fight Song, an anthem about people who are not children and know better behaving badly and like children, because there's f*ck all else to do at 2 am. They had some choice words as well:

"You could call Baltimore-D.C. area quintet AMFMS retro revivalists, but there’s not really one particular bygone style that they’re trying to bring back. Instead, their sound is a snarling collision of glam, garage, psych, punk, alt-rock, classic rock, and pretty much every other style that’s ever been made by boys with leather jackets and cool haircuts. Their anthemic new single, “Teenage Fight Song,” manages to sound like the Strokes trying to sound like Fugazi, with a little Mission of Burma thrown on top, and its super-saturated and fairly trippy video is just as excellent as the song itself." - MILES RAYMER, Entertainment Weekly.

Yes Weekly: AMFMS’ Teenage Fight song … a nod to the early punk and rock god’s attempts to incite a fight.

Rock and roll is a horse that no matter how much you beat will never exhale its final breath. It’s a genre that can never die, and no matter how many acts take an obscure approach to the matter, it always comes out sounding good in some way. The AMFMs, an outfit based out of the Baltimore-DC area just dropped a new EP promo via the act’s Soundcloud page. “Teenage Fight Song” possesses a particular anthem-like quality, perhaps a nod to the early punk and rock god’s attempts to incite a fight, as the hook clearly declares. “Black Rabbit” has this fainting hint of Smashing Pumpkins influence a la “Tonight, Tonight,” but the vocals tear in with an exceeding emotion that Billy Corgan would never muster once he realized how big his ego really is. Shawn Kyle steers the ship that is AMFMS, and he does so by maneuvering it through a menagerie of guitar riffs and drum patterns that provide the necessary, albeit subtle, foundation for the lyrics, which may or may not be able to sustain on their own depending on your taste for the occasional high-pitched inflection. Like most shows at the Garage, this one is scheduled to start around 9 p.m. with Totally Slow and Aquatic Ceremony slated to open. We’re guessing that this show costs around $6, which is pretty standard for the Garage (and always affordable for you!) !

March 3rd 2015 Communion NYC at the Rockwood Music Hall

Communion was born in the Summer of 2006 at London’s Notting Hill Arts Club. Founded by Ben Lovett (Mumford and Sons), Kevin Jones (Bear’s Den), and acclaimed producer Ian Grimble, it quickly grew into a flourishing community of musicians and fans alike, providing a first independent platform for the freshest young artists on London’s circuit and beyond.

The monthly night has seen the likes of Noah and the Whale, Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons, JJ Pistolet and Peggy Sue all grace the stage from the very start of their fledgling careers. It has also helped spawn the first steps for a diverse range of artists from The Holloways to King Charles and Example to Ben Howard to all in keeping with the eclectic ethos that Communion has come to stand for.

Since its humble beginnings from a West London basement bar, ‘Communion Presents’ shows have taken place across the UK in Brighton, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Leeds, York, Oxford, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin and Belfast, and internationally in Melbourne, Nashville, San Fransisco and New York City. Communion Presents works closely with other champions of new live music, including the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas, The Camden Crawl, HMV’s Next Big Thing series, The NME awards, Belfast’s Open House Festival, and many more clubs and companies who all have a hand in promoting exciting new music to as big and broad an audience as possible.

You can buy tickets to all Communion Presents shows at www.communionmusic.co.uk/live

Communion Records was founded in September 2009, priding itself on creating a close working family in which to allow artists to develop at their own pace. Production on many releases is handled by Ben, Kevin and Ian themselves, involving other artists from the roster in the recording process for that community vibe. Communion has released, or is currently primed to release records by Ben Howard, Michael Kiwanuka, Daughter, Deap Vally, Willy Mason, Half Moon Run, Gotye, Marcus Foster, Matthew and the Atlas, Matt Corby, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Pete Roe, Foy Vance, and Joe Banfi.

In addition Communion Records releases a compilation each year – Compilation 1 (Communion) featured rare recordings by Mumford and Sons, Johnny Flynn, Alessi’s Ark, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, JJ Pistolet (now of The Vaccines), and more. Compilation 2 (The Flowerpot Sessions) was a hugely ambitious, week long collaborative live project featuring original live recordings from the likes of Angus and Julia Stone, Damien Rice, The Staves, Lissie and Kill it Kid. And Compilation 3 (New Faces) was a snapshot of Communion’s musical universe as 2011 turned into 2012, featuring Michel Kiwanuka, Ben Howard, Keaton Henson, Matt Corby, Joe Banfi and loads more.
